  • Certificate of origin is specific to the lot, not a generic company brochure.
  • For equipment with electrical contacts—switchgear, breakers, portable generators—check physical condition for damage, corrosion, or wrong fasteners.

There's something satisfying about a clean inspection: the racking mechanism clicks into place, the label matches the data sheet, and the documentation is organized. That's rare enough to be beautiful.

Common mistakes I still see in 2025

Don't buy on the first quote. Don't assume the largest capacity is the right capacity. Don't treat manufacturing country as a simple answer when tariffs and traceability are involved.

Not ideal, but workable—that's what you're aiming for in a field replacement. Not the lowest number on a comparison chart.
